About the Conference
The dates of this summer's conference are: June 22 - June 27, 2008
The Conference will explore the mathematics and science curricula of today and tomorrow with special focus on the impact of technology and its application in the classroom. For each participant, the primary focus of the Conference will be two seminar courses. Each course, led by an experienced classroom teacher, will be limited to 12 people and will meet for two hours each day.
- Participants take two workshops that meet for one hour on Sunday, two hours each day, Monday through Thursday, and one hour Friday.
- A letter for Professional Development use will be included in conference materials upon arrival. It will state that course attendance for the week total 25 hours for seminars, plus 15 additional hours in CwiC sessions, (Conference within a Conference) and evening talks.
- A complete Conference-within-a-Conference (CwiC) will run from Monday through Thursday. This consists of 45-minute sessions similar to what one might find at an NCTM, NSTA or T-Cubed conference.
- Three graduate credits available through Rivier College.
- Featured speakers include leading mathematicians, scientists and mathematics and science educators.
- Full use of Phillips Exeter Academy's "state-of-the-art" Science Center.
- The Timothy B. Gutmann Scholarship for teachers in northern New England.
- A variety of computers will be available for the exclusive use of the conference participants.
- Calculators will be provided in courses requiring them and will also be available for purchase.
- A computer lab will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily.
- The Academy's athletic facilities will be available: tennis and squash courts, indoor swimming pool, sauna and more.
- All meals are provided by Phillips Exeter Academy's award-winning dining services.
- There are planned periods of rest and relaxation: coffee and juice breaks, daily social hours, special evening programs, sightseeing, and math walks.
While there are some courses in the Anja S. Greer Conference that are of interest to middle school teachers, the Summer Technology Conference for Middle School Teachers offered by The College of Staten Island in New York may be more appropriate.
