Chuck Ramsay

Director of Principal and Major Gifts

Chuck Ramsay

Chuck is a 1988 graduate of Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts, and a 1992 graduate of Hobart College in Geneva, New York. Immediately after graduating from Hobart, he started his career in academic administration as an admissions officer at his alma mater. He remained at Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges for six years, the last three as a major gift officer in their development office. In 1998, he arrived at Phillips Exeter Academy as a regional director of major gifts and worked as part of the team in Gilman House advancing the mission of the Academy through the Exeter Initiatives campaign. He left PEA in 2006 to begin a 10-year stint at Mount Holyoke College, first as director of leadership gifts and then as director of principal gifts and international advancement. His stepson, JP Mullins, enrolled at Exeter as a new lower in the fall of 2014 (and graduated in 2017). After multiple trips to Exeter for family weekends and Parents Committee meetings, Chuck decided to return to the Academy in an official capacity in 2016 as director of principal and major gifts. His team in Institutional Advancement includes major gifts, planned giving and research. His regions include the Bay Area, metropolitan New York and Asia, as well as other regions outside the United States. His daughter Annabel is currently enrolled at Exeter as a member of the class of 2021.

He enjoys watching sporting events on campus, making use of the Academy’s trails and using the Downer Fitness Center.  He has recently agreed to serve as a co-advisor to the PEA Business Club.
