The world is waiting for you
Exeter’s Global Initiatives programs, an extension of the Harkness table, offer students a diverse array of opportunities around the world — each a vital lesson in global citizenship through experiential immersion. This past summer, as we emerged from COVID travel restrictions, programs included pollinator species research for the Bee Barcode of Life Initiative in Costa Rica; social entrepreneurship in Berlin, with a focus on developing sustainable solutions to community challenges; archeological excavation with the Gabbi Project archeological dig in Lazio, Italy; a student service-learning project in New Orleans, Louisiana, to name a few.
This year, students have the opportunity study abroad in one of six countries: England, Italy, Japan, Germany, Spain and The Bahamas. Students also will travel on a range of domestic and international programs during our November and March breaks, and we have expanded our internship opportunities for rising seniors.
In the spirit of Exeter’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Vision Statement, we believe “that we are all better equipped to learn and to lead when our thoughts are tested by others, particularly by those whose thoughts or identities are different from our own. Only when we skillfully engage our differences — whether they are grounded in race; ethnicity; national or geographic origin; religious, philosophical or political beliefs; gender or gender identity; sexual orientation; age; physical ability; family structure, socioeconomic status or life experience — will we find a path to that greater understanding of the world and how we can be of service to it.”

This trip has taught me so much. I am leaving Maui with a newfound interest in environmentalism with a focus on cultural importance and the idea that history can be taught through the nature it took place in.”Ina '23
