Biography

Joe is a native of Baltimore, where he attended high school at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and then earned a B.A. in physics at Johns Hopkins University. He earned his M.A. from the University of Chicago and taught for 13 years at Georgetown Day High School in Washington, D.C., before coming to Exeter in 1987.

Joe is a former chairman of the Department of Mathematics, and he was one of the driving forces who helped shape the Academy’s current curriculum. His leadership, guidance and hard work on the curriculum have been invaluable to the department. Joe has taken on many jobs at Exeter, including assistant lacrosse and volleyball coach; dorm adviser; head adviser to Exeter’s yearbook, the PEAN; and admissions reader.
