Boys swimming takes second, girls seventh at Interschols

Boys and girls swimming capped their respective seasons in impressive fashion with top performances at Interschols.

Andrew Benson '20 led the charge for Big Red, contributing 104 out of the 335 total points Exeter scored on the weekend. 

The Exeter boys and girls swim teams finished off their respective seasons with terrific performances at the NEPSAC Division I Championships this past weekend at Big Red’s Roger Nekton Championship Pool. The boys team placed second overall in New England while the girls team earned a seventh place finish in the two-day competition.

Andrew Benson ’20 led the charge for Big Red, as he claimed individual New England titles in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, setting new school records in the process with times of 1:39.50 and 48.92 respectively.

Benson was also part of the 200-yard medley relay team and the 400-yard freestyle relay team that collected a second-place and third-place finish on the afternoon. Benson’s teammates on the 200-yard medley relay team of Charles Venci ’20, Jared Zhang ’19, and Taylor Walshe ’18, combined to break the school record time in the event, touching the wall at 1:32.90.

On the girls side it was the 200-yard freestyle relay team made up of Liz Williams ’19, Sam Gove ’19, Heddy Parker ’19 and Tina Wang ’19 who led the way as they posted a third-place finish with a time of 1:38.35.

Wang also posted top eight finishes in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races with a time of 24.55 and 53.25 respectively.
