Maggie Hock '19 has qualified and will compete at Nationals in the 800 meter for the second consecutive season.

The Big Red boys and girl track and field teams showed up in a big way at the Eastern States Championships held at the historic New Balance Armory in New York City on Tuesday afternoon.

“We had preps compete like seasoned athletes, seniors who competed above expectations, and every single team member step up to the plate and give everything that they had,” said head coach Hilary Coder.

Leading the way was Maggie Hock ’19 who finished second in the 800 meter with a time of 2:13.08. Hock’s performance comes on the heels of a first place finish this past Sunday at the USTF New England Championships at Harvard University where she crossed the line at 2:12.00. Claire Melvin ’18 joined Hock in the 800 meter on Tuesday and cruised to a top-20 finish with a time of 2:22.51.

Ashley Lin ’19 and Alexandra Van Dijkum ’19 both performed well in the girls two mile. Lin posted an eighth place overall finish with a time of 11:51.39 while Van Dijkum finished 11th overall at 11:53.50.

On the boys side, Abel Ngala ’18 and Cedric Blaise ’18 delivered fantastic performances in the long jump. Ngala finished in sixth place, leaping 21 feet, 11.25 inches while Blaise posted a 15th place finish with a jump of 20 feet, 10.25 inches.
