Biography

Ms. Morris (Sally) has lived in New England all her life, with several stints living in Italy. She taught ancient Greek and Latin, and also Italian, at the Brooks School in Massachusetts for 20 years. She was a dorm head, served as chair of the Classics Department, and coached field hockey, basketball and crew. During this time, she raised her family and earned her master's degree as well. Her involvement in the classics included writing and grading AP Latin exams, work on Jenney's First Year Latin, summer study at the American Academy in Rome, and committee work for national and local classics organizations; she also served as the Latin and Greek instructor for the first year of School Year Abroad in Viterbo, Italy.

Since arriving at Exeter in 2005, Ms. Morris has continued to teach both Latin and ancient Greek, and has served as dorm head and department chair. She founded and now directs the Winter Term in Rome for classical language students and has been co-directing the Rome Study Tour during March vacation. She is the long-term head coach of girls crew, which has won numerous New England championships and placed among the top crews in the nation at the Youth Nationals; the girls also won at the Women's Henley Regatta '12, in England. She has twice been honored by Exeter with teaching awards, and beyond Exeter, she enjoys sharing lessons learned from her many years of teaching and coaching by giving talks at national conferences.

Ms. Morris revels in traveling, especially to classical locations; visiting art museums; attending musical concerts; and keeping up with her Italian. She also loves hiking, biking, reading, running, gardening and rowing.
