Biology Institute - College Credits

The Biology Institute has partnered with Lake Erie College to offer our attendees college credits for completion of the institute. The cost is $500 for 3 semester hours. This fee is in addition to the $1,500.00 registration fee paid to Phillips Exeter Academy.

Graduate Credit Requirements

You must complete the 6-day Biology Institute at Exeter in order to qualify for college credit.

Grading Requirements

Students may elect to have a Pass/Fail grade or a letter grade.

Criteria (Percentage)

  • Attendance (20%)
  • Participation and E-Journal (20%)
  • Project/Paper (60%)

Final Project Assignment

An outside paper/project is required to complete 15 contact hours mandated for one credit hour. This project MUST BE completed OUTSIDE of your instructional class time. The project consists of a daily reflections journal, along with an end of course project -four separate lesson plans- (Two lessons based on the courses they register for and two lessons based on the advanced techniques seminars they attend or the field trips attended.)

Daily reflections journal (20%)

  • What was taught? (each day of class)
  • How will you use this in your classroom?

Four separate lesson plans (60%)

  • Two lessons based on the courses you register for
  • One lesson based on one of the advanced technique sessions you attended, and/or
  • One lesson based on one of the field trips you attended

Course Requirements

Students are expected to attend all class meetings of the week long seminar course and complete required work. In addition, each participant is expected to attend the Advanced tech sessions, and attend all field trips.

All assignments are due one week after the completion of the conference.

All assignments will be sent electronically to richardbenz@mac.com.

The assignments will be sent as attachments as Word files in an e-mail that has the participants name in the title of the attachment along with the assignment name. (i.e. Richard Benz e-journal, BIE.)
