Serving Others

Serve to others is at the core of the Exeter experience

Being our best selves

Everything you do at Exeter — every class, every presentation, every piece of music, every sport and every act of service — is meant to help you discover your interests, your power and your responsibility. Those acts of service, built on a philosophy expressed in our founding documents as non sibi, or "not for oneself," comprise a core element of the Exeter experience.

Exeter seeks to foster in young people ambitions and actions inspired by their interest in the world around them; to stimulate an appetite for knowledge and goodness. Service to others is indispensable to that mission.

We must reconsider each year what it means to help our students grow in knowledge and goodness and thereby lay the surest foundation for usefulness to humankind. … The urgency of our mission is as great today as ever."
