Biography

Dr. Matsumaru comes to Exeter from Salem, Oregon, where he has been volunteering with the Catholic Charities Refugee Services Program. He was also active in the Aspire Program at McKay High School, where he tutored many students who are DACA recipients and first-generation high school graduates. Dr. Matsumaru earned his doctorate at Carnegie Mellon University, writing a dissertation titled “Unmasking a City: Blacks, Asians and the Struggle Against Segregated Housing in 20th Century Seattle.” Prior to studying history, he worked as a journalist in British Columbia. Dr. Matsumaru lives on campus with his wife and children.
