Andrew Benson ’20 is one of the most accomplished swimmers in Big Red program history. During his four years swimming in the Roger A. Nekton Championship Pool, Benson broke numerous school and New England records, claimed Eastern States and New England Championships, and touched the wall first in countless races.

This weekend he’ll aim to win a few more races, albeit on a larger stage, when he competes in three events at the United States Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.

Benson, who was highly accomplished in every stroke during his time in Exeter, will compete in Wave I of the Olympic Trials in the 100-meter breaststroke, 100-meter freestyle and 50-meter freestyle. Benson will compete in the 100 freestyle on Friday, the 100 breaststroke on Saturday and 50 freestyle on Monday. The US Olympic Team will be announced the week of June 13th.

The US Trails come on the heels of Benson’s terrific freshman campaign in the pool at the University of Wisconsin. Benson was just one of seven Badgers to qualify for the NCAA Championships this past season and earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors — the first Wisconsin swimmer to do so since 2017.

The US Olympic Trials will be broadcast Friday-Sunday on NBC’s Olympic Channel at 8:00pm EST.
