Tyler Morris '20 wrestled his way to another Class A title in the 126 pound weight class.

The Exeter varsity wrestling program's successful Class A run has continued as Big Red took home second place at the championship tournament held at Andover over the weekend. Four Big Red competitors claimed first place finishes in their respective weight classes, while eight others finished inside the top three.

“Our guys performed really well,” said head coach Dave Hudson. “There are a lot of talented teams and competitors that we squared off against this weekend and it is a testament to the hard work we have put in all year to come out where we did. We’ll keep working hard and are looking forward to competing at New England’s and Prep Nationals in the next couple of weeks.”

While Exeter’s run of four straight Class A Championships came to an end, their second place finish marks the sixth straight season they have placed in the top four at the tournament.

Christian Petry ’21 (106 lbs.), Tyler Morris ’20 (126 lbs.), Tabor Wanag ’19 (185 lbs.), and Henry Lagasse ’19 (195 lbs.) each wrestled their way to the top of their respective brackets. Standing atop the podium is a familiar feeling for Petry, Morris and Lagasse as they earned first-place finishes in last year’s Class A Championship, while Wanag earned his first Class A title after moving up a weight class this season.

Big Red will travel to Green Farms Academy this coming weekend to compete in the New England Championship before several members of the squad will round out the season at Prep Nationals on February 22nd.
