The Kurtz Dome

The Kurtz Dome is home to a Paramount ME German Equatorial mount and the ability to swap out many different telescope tubes assemblies. Most of the time, it holds a 16" Flat Field Schmidt-Cassegrain tube with one finder scope and computer interface. Like the Alden Dome, the Kurtz Dome has a slit which opens and rotates using a motor. A computer workstation in the dome allows easy connection to the telescope's CCD camera for high-resolution digital images of the night sky. In addition, students complete projects using data gathered from photometers, and a spectrograph.
